Producer Anthony DellaFlora and director James Lujan formed Taos Communications Empire in 1997 to promote their documentary High Strange New Mexico(website) (clip) (which has recently earned national distribution) and several other projects. DellaFlora subsequently bought out Lujan and continues to run the company.
The company has been responsible for producing a number of projects, including the documentary The Language of Spirituality (2004)(clip), Sleeping Monsters, Sacred Fires: Volcanoes of New Mexico for PBS affiliate KNME TV (2006), Little Rock's Run (2001), PSAs for Insure New Mexico (2007) and Sex, Death and Other Spiritual Journeys (2002) a short film about author John Gilmore.
As well the company has recently invested in online broadcast and marketing tools in order to promote and market its films using advanced broadcast technology and internet marketing techniques. We offer independent filmmakers the opportunity to list their films in our advanced directory and take advantage of emerging broadcast technology in order to get their films seen and earn a return on their hard spent investment dollars. DellaFlora is also a co-founder of the annual Duke City Shootout filmmaking competition, begun in 2000. He has served as executive producer on the more than 50 short movies made at the Shootout and continues to do so.
